Practitioners registered on the Trauma Support Directory or with the Counselling Program Team are eligible to provide counselling and psychological services to people living in Queensland who have accepted an offer of redress.
The user-choice model allows people to choose their own practitioner, and invoices are paid directly by the Counselling Program Team.
For more information please read the following frequently asked questions.
In Queensland, counselling and psychological care services are arranged by the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.
People who receive an Offer of Redress, who were residing in Queensland at the time they accepted their offer, are eligible for 20 hours of counselling and psychological care services—and more if needed—with an approved counsellor of their choice.
To enable people to have as much choice as possible, there are 3 options to assist them when making a decision about a counselling:
Continue to see their own counsellor—if people already have a counsellor and wish to continue seeing them, this may be possible if the counsellor is eligible to register on the Trauma Support Directory or with the Redress Counselling Program.
Use the Trauma Support Directory—people can access the Trauma Support Directory directly to locate a counsellor.
Contact the Redress Counselling Team (see below) to have their options explained and to help find a counsellor or practitioner.
Counsellors invoice the Redress Counselling Team directly. The standard rate for practitioners can charged is capped. Practitioners must not charge a gap fee.
The Redress Counselling Team can provide support to assist people who have accepted an offer of redress to access Queensland's counselling and psychological care arrangements.
The Redress Counselling Team is located within the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services, and supports all Queenslanders who accept an offer of Counselling and psychological care from the National Redress Scheme.
Ensure you have understood and actioned the requirements for providing hours that are eligible for billing under the Scheme. These requirements are detailed in the Service provider agreement form and include information that must be provided to the person prior to commencement.

After services have been provided:

The directory is hosted by the Australian Psychological Society and is publicly available. Practitioners self-register on line at www.traumasupport.com.au providing their qualifications, professional registration and experience with complex trauma in adults.
If you have an existing therapeutic relationship with a person who has accepted an offer of redress and you are not already in the directory, you can check your eligibility and apply for registration or contact the Counselling Program Team if you do not want to join a public directory.
The Redress Counselling Team can approve individual practitioners (if eligible) who are already working with a person who has accepted an offer of redress and wants to continue seeing that practitioner. Please contact the team on 1800 569 100 or redresscounselling@cyjma.qld.gov.au before applying.
Once registered, on the Trauma Support Directory or with the Redress Team you can provide billable counselling and psychological care services in accordance with the requirements of the Queensland counselling and psychological care arrangements.
The Redress Counselling Team will track the hours of counselling accessed based on invoices received and paid. Practitioners will receive an email when more than 16 hours have been completed and again when more than 18 hours has been accessed.
The email will explain the process and review required to request additional hours and include the form to be completed in collaboration with the person accessing counselling.
If further counselling hours are not identified as being required at this time, additional hours can be requested at a later date should the need arise.
A maximum of 20 additional hours can be approved in any single request.
